Description

The Adventures of Sam Spade Old Time Radio Shows Old movie buffs will certainly remember Humphrey Bogart as detective Sam Spade in the 1941 classic The Maltese Falcon by creator Dashiell Hammett. But several years later, Spade’s character would make the jump to radio as the rough and tumble private investigator in a weekly series. The Adventures of Sam Spade premiered on the ABC radio network in 1946. But after a short run of only 13 episodes, the series moved to CBS where it became a prime-time hit. The series starred Howard Duff (and later, Steve Dunne) as Sam Spade and Lurene Tuttle as his secretary, Effie. Each case unfolded as a report dictated to the ever-flustered Effie, who was also madly in love with her boss. In each report, Spade would always quote his license number and referred to each investigation as a “caper”. Each report was dated with the actual airdate. Before the series, Sam Spade had been played in radio adaptations of The Maltese Falcon by both Edward G. Robinson (in a 1943 Lux Radio Theater production) and by Bogart himself (in a 1946 Academy Award Theatre production), both on CBS. Unfortunately, several of the episodes in this series have been lost to the ages, though this DVD includes 82 episodes of the original radio series, plus a four-part BBC production of The Maltese Falcon and a 1937 production of the Jell-o Program featuring Sam Spade with Jack Benny, George Burns and Gracie Allen (of Burns and Allen ). # # # FIRST BROADCAST: July 12th 1946 LAST BROADCAST: April 27th 1951 SPONSORS: Wildroot Cream Oil, Wildroot CAST: Howard Duff, Steve Dunne, Lurene Tuttle, John McIntire, William Conrad, Cathy and Elliot Lewis, June Havoc, Joseph Kearns, Jerry Hausner, Elliott Reid, Mary Jane Croft, Jeanette Nolan, Betty Lou Gerson ANNOUNCERS: Dick Joy MUSIC: Lud Gluskin, Rene and Pierre Garriguenc PRODUCERS/DIRECTORS: William Spier WRITERS: Bob Tallman, Jo Eisinger, Gil Doud, John Michael Hayes, E Jack Neuman, Harold Swanton SOUND EFFECTS: Berne Surrey THEME: Goodnight, Sweetheart Adventures of Sam Spade – 1946-1951 * * SAVE EVEN MORE!! * * This show now comes bundled as part of our Sci-Fi & Adventure Series which includes 200 similarly themed Old Time Radio Shows for one low price! 87 Episodes in MP3 format ship on a single D V D-R with paperless labeling 100% Guaranteed to play on your DVD -enabled PC or your money back Over 40 hours of play Transfer to your smartphone or MP3 player and listen anywhere Wholesome entertainment for the whole family The radio episodes on this disc are recorded as digital audio files commonly known as "MP3's" and require a computer or MP3 player (like your smartphone) to play them.
