Box 13 Old Time Radio Shows In the hit radio show BOX 13 , D an Holiday, newspaper reporter turned fiction writer, placed an ad in The Star Times in search of story ideas. His ad stated simply, “Adventure wanted, will go anywhere, do anything — Box 13 .” The replies came to the newspaper's Box13 and always brought trouble with them. BOX 13 was a syndicated series, heard Sunday evenings on the Mutual Network between August 22, 1948 and August 14, 1949 . The part of D an Holiday was played by Alan Ladd. Sylvia Picker played Suzzy, and a host of guest stars rotated through the program. There were many writers who co-wrote for Box 13 , though Ladd himself was the main writer. The show was the brain child of both Alan Ladd and Richard Sandville, two owners of the famous Mayfare Restaurant in Los Angeles during World War II. Ladd's ambition to get on radio in his own series was thwarted in part because of contractual obligations with Paramount .
