What Is All-On-4?

The term ‘ALL-ON-4’ refers to the replacement of ALL teeth ON FOUR dental implants, which support them. It is a modern technique where the back implants are tilted 45º to provide the required support for total rehabilitation.

The tilting of the back of implants helps overcome bone deficiencies often found in the front of the jaw and most often avoids the need for bone grafting.

Why Consider All-On-4?

Losing one or more of your teeth creates a gap in your smile, affects your ability to chew properly, and can alter your diet and nutrition. While these are all serious issues, the most devastating is bone loss?

When a tooth is lost, the jawbone beneath it begins to shrink (or atrophy) and become brittle. Not only does losing a tooth affect your smile, it also changes the shape of your face causing you to look prematurely aged.

Benefits of All-On-4

All-On-4 offers many benefits. One of the most impactful is its ability to maintain your jawbone and facial appearance because it is supported by dental implants that act like the root of a tooth.

All-On-4 requires just 4 implants to replace a full set of top or bottom teeth. It is done by tilting the implants placed at the back of the jaw. By placing the implants at an angle, we are able to avoid thin or low-density areas. This not only means that we can avoid the need for bone grafting, but we can rely on these areas to support a prosthesis fitted within days of the surgery.

And since less implants are used in comparison to older methods, we can achieve better, more predictable results and do it at a much lower cost.

Patients who would otherwise not qualify for dental implant treatment because of low jawbone density can now be good candidates for treatment.

And because the prosthetic is made of material impervious to cavities and staining, patients enjoy simpler long-term maintenance and uncomplicated cleaning.

How “All-On-4” Works

With the “All-On-4” treatment you are never without teeth. You show up the day of your procedure with your missing or failing teeth. You’re sedated, you receive treatment, and you wake up a few hours later with a brand new smile.

Included with your “All-On-4” procedure, are two sets of teeth: your healing set and your permanent set.

After your implants are placed, you will be fitted and sent home with your healing set of teeth. These are what you’ll have while your body is healing from surgery and the implants properly fuse with your jawbone.

Your Healing Teeth

Your healing teeth are nearly indistinguishable from your permanent set, but they are made to accommodate a soft food diet and are designed to break if you bite or chew on something hard enough to damage your implants. This is a safety feature much like a car is designed to crumple to protect its passengers.

Your Permanent Teeth

After your implants have successfully integrated with your jawbone, the doctor will schedule you for placement of your permanent teeth. This is a painless procedure that typically takes 30 minutes to place.

Your permanent teeth are customized for your ideal color, shape, length and bite. They are impervious to cavities, won’t stain, and do not require flossing. And with proper care, will typically outlast your lifetime.
